What's the difference between crushed and non-crushed rip rap?

Crushed rip rap has sharp angular edges that interlock under load — it stays in place better under water flow. Non-crushed or rounded stone allows smoother water flow but provides less interlocking stability. For erosion control in Texas, angular crushed limestone is the standard.

Do I need filter fabric under rip rap?

Yes for most applications. A geotextile filter fabric or gravel base layer beneath the rip rap prevents soil from washing out from underneath, which would cause the rock to sink and lose effectiveness over time. Ask us — we can advise on base preparation when you quote.

How much rip rap do I need?
