How accurate is this calculator?
The calculator uses standard density values for Texas aggregate materials. Estimates are typically within 5–10% of actual requirements. Always order 5–10% extra to account for waste, compaction, and uneven spreading.
How do I convert cubic yards to tons?
Multiply cubic yards by the material density (tons per cubic yard). For example: 10 cubic yards of road base × 1.50 = 15 tons. The calculator handles this conversion automatically once you select your material.
Why should I add extra to my estimate?
Materials compact when placed and rolled. Fill dirt typically loses 20–25% to compaction. Road base loses 10–15%. Topsoil can lose up to 30%. Always order extra — running short delays your project, and a second delivery costs more per ton than ordering correctly the first time.
How many tons fit in one dump truck?
It depends on the truck configuration. A standard tri-axle carries 15–18 tons. A quad-axle carries 18–22 tons. A super dump can carry 22–26 tons. The calculator shows you load counts at 15-ton and 20-ton benchmarks — use the truck reference table on the right to match your configuration.
Can I use this for irregular-shaped areas?
